RL: Please tell us about yourself?
SP; I’m Szabolcs, a programmer from central europe, a husband and father of two. I’m not really a maker, but thanks to my early age education in arts, and engineering background I take challenge in creating both the things I need and improving the things I think I could do better.
RL: Please tell us about your work?
SP: I’m working on a custom keyboard since 4-5 years, as much as my free time and energy allows. I program the microcontroller and hand wire the switches (NKRO). I wrote the STL file for 3D printing the keycaps, which I will print using my small SLA printer. And finally I also wrote the SVG file for laser cutting the case/plate of the keyboard using two sheets of plexi. You can see my keyboard project here.
RL: What do you like about laser cutting and the material/s you used?
SP: I really like how clean and precise laser cutting is. I did try cutting various materials with traditional tools, but got nowhere near the quality. I’m trying to make the keyboard as transparent as possible (hence no circuit board), and the clear acrylic has just the right strength and flexibility for a keyboard while being completely tranparent.
RL: What made you choose RazorLAB?
SP: As I was new to laser cutting (I still am), I was looking for a service where I can just upload my design, choose a material, and get a reasonable quote including shipping within europe. RazorLab had all that, and neither the speed and quality of the work nor the post sale customer experience disappointed.
